I believe it is important for couples to educate themselves about the different stages of labor and birth. When couples gain insight into what they may encounter during the birth process, both physically and mentally, labor is often approached with less fear. Learning how to relax, let go, and respond to the tempo of labor is covered in class. We also learn about proper nutrition during pregnancy because with proper nutrition, you can minimize your chances of many pregnancy-related complications. The more knowledge you have about the normal and natural processes of labor and birth, the less fears you may have because you will have an idea of what to expect during both predictable and unpredictable circumstances which may arise during labor.
I teach natural childbirth classes in 5 week sessions in Charlottesville, four sessions per year (spring, summer, fall and winter). Classes are interactive and we learn about the natural process of birth, how to work “with” your body and surrender to the birth experience. We learn about natural ways to avoid unnecessary pain and comfort measures which may help us cope with the intensity of labor and birth. Husbands and partners are taught how to help the mother relax in labor along with various ways to provide encouragement and support throughout labor. Other topics include nutrition, prenatal exercise, abdominal breathing, stages of labor, informed consent, breastfeeding and relaxation. In addition to the childbirth curriculum, classes periodically feature guest speakers, birth stories and videos.
The cost of the complete series including materials is $215/couple. A non-refundable $50 deposit is required to reserve a spot in class. Please contact me for more information or with any questions regarding classes.

Upcoming Spring Series: April 5- May 3
- I am currently taking registrations for the upcoming spring series, April 5th- May 3rd 2016. This would be a great class if your estimated due date is the end of May, June, July or August 2016. Classes will meet from 7-9pm at Bend Yoga on the Downtown Mall on Tuesday evenings for 5 weeks. There is parking validation available for up to 2 hours.
- The summer series will begin in July. This is a great class if your due date is late-August, September, October, or November 2016.
